We are commited to making the school, the neighbourhood and even the world into a cleaner, greener place.

A little bit about what we've done so far...

Our first goal as a club is to make our school and community more environmentally friendly.  We have completed some initiatives aimed at revitalizing our front yard.  We planted about 300 tulip, daffodil and  other assorted flower bulbs.  As you may have noticed, we also planted four apple trees in the front yard.  Lately, we planted many more bulbs and are looking forward to seeing them come up in the spring.  We also did some bake sales and craft sales to raise money for bike racks.  Additionally, we did an electronics collection to get them to a proper recycling facility.  During the collection we received $1080 which we used to purchase five bike racks and installed them in the front yard at Glebe. We did the electronics collection again this year, and hope to make it an annual event along with selling lots for the Great Glebe Garage Sale.   Thanks to all your donations during Earth Week, we raised nearly $2 000  for Stand for Trees.  Also a great thanks to those who bought raffle tickets or baked goods to support the Ottawa Bird Care Centre.  Recently, we finally established a green bin in the staff room!

Our current projects...

Currently, we are doing the recycling every week afterschool.  We desperately need help, so if you're available and looking for volunteer hours, come on down to the basement near the K stairwell at 2:50-3:00p when you hear the recycling announcement.  It takes about an hour every week. Additionally, we have adopted Glebe and First avenue around the school for a four year period.  We do clean-up the capital once every fall and once every spring.  We also maintain a vegetable garden in the front yard, this year we harvested many tomatoes, strawberries, carrots and some parsley.  All the fruits and vegetables are donated to the food bank.   Right now we are working on a new design for the front yard.  Check out our Upcoming Events page for more information.

Future hopes...

In the future, we would like to expand our green bin program.  We'd also like to get more involved with energy at our school.  We are hoping to network with other OCDSB school next fall, and we're also considering the possibility of registering Glebe as an Eco-school.

If YOU have any ideas or want to join the club feel free to email us at green4glebe@gmail.com or visit us at lunch any Tuesday in R.424!
